Purplebricks offers services on its online platform, a UK-based call centre, and through a group of local experts. These local experts will provide support throughout the sale process but aren’t as “hands-on” as a normal high-street agent.
Once signed up and logged into Purplebricks’ portal, local experts are available for minor inquiries but don’t expect them to hold your hand throughout the process.
For someone new to the home sale or letting process, this may be unsettling and disconcerting. Others may have no problem handling a majority of the work themselves with minimal support.

Did Purplebricks crack & WHAT ABOUT STRIKE?

Purplebricks recently had a lot of bad press and poor company news. From a tumbling share price and fines, it wasn’t looking pretty.

The share price was at an all time low.
The news coming from regulators wasn’t pretty either. A few laundering fines and deposit issues paints an even bleaker picture.
In light of all their troubles and red flags, Purplebricks underwent a major overhaul recently when it joined forces with another big name in the online letting game – Strike. Once rivals, Strike saw an opportunity to buy Purplebricks and eliminate the competition. At the time, Purplebricks was facing some issues both financially and functionally. The company realised that it might be in its best interests to cut its losses and take advantage of the olive branch Strike was offering.
Once the two companies became one, the higher-ups at Strike realised something else – Purplebricks, despite its flaws, was a more widely recognized and reputable brand. That’s when Strike decided to continue operating under their business model, which offered notable perks like free house valuations and no fees for property sales but used the Purplebricks brand.
Today, the Purplebricks website, logo, and brand are all the same, but the internal workings of the company represent Strike’s values, mission, and business model.
More bad news in 2025: BBC Panorama Investigation
In July 2025, BBC Panorama aired a troubling investigation that placed Purplebricks back under critical scrutiny. The programme exposed high-pressure sales tactics being used by some estate agents — including Purplebricks — raising serious concerns about the transparency and fairness of their operations.
The investigation revealed that agents were incentivised to upsell services, particularly conveyancing referrals, regardless of whether they were truly in the best interest of the customer. Secretly filmed footage showed Purplebricks employees suggesting that clients should “play the game” and select recommended solicitors — not for better service, but to avoid additional charges or delays.
These tactics, according to industry experts featured in the programme, undermine consumer choice and distort the sales process. More concerningly, they may lead sellers to make misinformed decisions based on pressure rather than value or performance.
This exposé has added further weight to growing criticism that some online and hybrid estate agents prioritise internal targets and revenue streams over customer outcomes. At this point, the main question that remains is how much are Purplebricks fees? Like most online estate agents, Purplebricks offers various services for different fees and pricing.

One thing that made Strike stand out as a popular estate agency was its “no fees” offer to sell your home. Who wouldn’t want to market and sell their property without paying estate agent fees or a commission?
Even after rebranding as Purplebricks, these free services are still a major selling point for the company. In fact, it’s the first thing you see when you visit the new Purplebricks website.
Once you click on the “How it Works” tab, you’ll be asked to select your location. Choices include Wales, England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. The process and fees work differently depending on where you’re located. For example, property owners in Scotland can request a Home Report, but this isn’t an option for any other location listed on the website. Make sure you read through exactly what comes with Purplebricks “free” services since it’s not a standard package across the board.

Even though the Boost Package advertises discounted mortgage advice, the fine print at the bottom of the page indicates additional fees may apply. According to the website, these fees vary “depending on your circumstances,” with some homeowners paying 1% but most paying up to £299 more to use Purplebricks mortgage lenders and advice.

Since the recent merge with Strike, Purplebricks has expanded its reach, added free valuations to its list of services, and utilised cutting edge technology to offer both online and in-person assistance from local experts.
Some highlights of Purplebrick’s letting services include no tenant, no fee services, access to a rental calculator to determine what you’ll pay, and a knowledgeable customer service team. Landlords simply enter their postal code and monthly rental fee and Purple bricks determines the fees. Services include tenant find, let and rent collection, and fully managed.
It’s worth noting, though, that Purplebrick’s free property valuations are completely virtual, so they may not be as accurate as you’d hope.

Not only is Purplebricks the largest and most popular online letting agent in the UK, but it’s also the most reviewed.

With nearly 92,000 Trustpilot reviews, people have a lot to say about Purplebricks. The majority of Purplebricks reviews are poor, which says a lot about the company.

Most users focus on the company’s efficiency and pricing. If you login to the Purplebricks online system, you’ll immediately see it’s convenient and user-friendly.
Local experts and customer support make the sale process easy. Some negative reviews commented on a lack of communication between agents and sellers, but this was rare and generally directed at buyers, not sellers.
Some buyers said it was difficult to contact a real-life person to answer their questions, although there’s no evidence that Purplebricks outsources their support centre, which is located within the UK.

Overall, Purplebricks is an amazing brand with reliable and affordable services. The company’s brand awareness is leaps and bounds above many of its competitors in the areas of customer consideration, service, and impression. Purplebricks also has also dedicated the last decade to building brand awareness and a positive reputation in the UK estate agency market. These are just a few reasons why Strike chose to adopt the Purplebricks brand following the buyout.
The website also has an easy-to-use search tool that lets you search for prices using your postcode.

Improvements to be made to their service
There’s always room for improvement and although Strike’s takeover has come with some beneficial upgrades and advancements, the company isn’t without a few flaws. The biggest issue we’ve encountered is the high costs and fees, which, in some cases, are much higher than their competitors.
Of course high costs and expensive marketing means Purplebricks’ fees are so much more expensive than other online letting and estate agents servicing the same areas.
In addition to higher than normal service fees, Purplebricks also charges high set-up fees.
Another downside to Purplebricks is that it’s not available nationwide for lettings. Unless your property is located in the UK or London, you can’t utilize their services
One service that isn’t available for letting agreements is guaranteed rent. We found this strange considering second only to tenant-find services, rent collection, and guaranteed rent are two of the most popular and sought-after services for landlords. Adding guaranteed rent for landlords would probably increase Purplebrick’s earnings and customer satisfaction even further.
How it went contacting the agent for more information
When we first contacted Purbplebricks over the phone, their automated menu was a bit annoying. There were an overwhelming amount of options to choose from and the automated messages seemed neverending. But once we finished going through the menu options, the wait time for speaking with an agent was short.
The salesperson we spoke to was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They provided in-depth detail about each of Purplebricks’ services and had no issues answering our questions about pricing or availability.
We also emailed the company with follow-up questions after the initial phone call. Not only did a salesperson respond quickly, but they provided exact answers to our specific questions. There were no additional sales pitches or pressure to upgrade our package or add more services to our existing plan.
Their live chat feature was also quite helpful when asking basic questions about Purplebricks’ services. This is likely a better way to contact the company for quick answers.

“Online agents provide an essential alternative to hands on sellers & landlords looking to save on fees.
The concept of online agents is an amazing idea, lower overheads which result in lower fees.
However, Purplebricks seem to have lost an element of their vision of being an online agent. High staff and marketing costs are taking their toll. While challenger online agents, sticking to the lower fee strategy, are eating up their market share.
Purplebricks were doing an amazing job in building their brand. Great TV ads and high visibility sponsorship deals made them into a household name.
Unfortunately, brutal fines and breaches of regulation, alongside a falling share price have unwound some of the great work that was accomplished.
The future for this company is uncertain, but it would be a shame to see them fall out of the market. At the time of writing there is talk of Strike taking over the firm. That’s an interesting proposition, especially if Strike model is absorbed into the future Purplebricks brand.”

High street agents have local offices and branches they work out of. Most online and hybrid agents like Purplebricks do not. That’s not to say they don’t have a central office, but they don’t place individual agents at local branches.

Purplebricks doesn’t do this and won’t leave you unsupported, but they also won’t market your property the same way high street agents do.

Regardless of what type of estate agent you hire, they’ll advertise your home on popular property portals like Rightmove and Zoopla. For many homeowners, this is the primary way of advertising.
What you won’t get with an online agent is real-life, tangible marketing like brochures and pamphlets or advertisements in local magazines and newspapers. The good news is, these forms of paper ads are slowly dying off.
No local branches also mean less foot traffic for online agents, but with most properties selling online, this isn’t a major factor for most homeowners.
As long as your property is listed on Rightmove and Zoopla, you’re sure to get the most views, leads, and inquiries.
Both high street and estate agent fees cover these marketing efforts plus managing the listing, handling inquiries, and in some cases, scheduling viewings.
Conducting Viewings
Speaking of viewings, most potential buyers who are interested in your property will want to see it in person. After seeing the photographs online, they’ll inquire with your agent and set up a meeting time.

Conducting viewings yourself is generally a bad idea. It’s not easy to show your home and answer hard questions.

How do you get out of a Purplebricks contract?
You can withdraw or cancel any of the products or services you signed up for after the minimum period ends. By clicking the “Property Withdrawal” button on the online platform, you can withdraw your property as it’s being advertised by Purple Bricks. If the company has already helped facilitate your sale, you still have to pay the completion fee even if you terminate your agreement before any contracts are signed. Once you agree to advertise your property on Purplebricks, you’ll be entitled to a 14-day “cooling off period” before the advertisement goes live. At this point in the process, you’re no longer entitled to a refund for any initial advertising fees.
How does Purplebricks work in the UK?
Purplebricks shows sellers, landlords, and buyers how to use the platform but doesn’t offer much support or guidance once the process is underway. First, you request a free valuation, then Purplebricks shows you what to do with the results. You instruct Purplebrick on how you want your property advertised, after which the company will create an advertisement. You manage all your viewings and choose to either host them yourself or let Purplebricks handle them for you. When it’s time to accept an offer, Purplebricks can help with the final negotiations and paperwork.
How do Purplebricks agents make money?
Agents don’t collect a percentage of the sale price of a property, but instead, charge upfront fees. That means homeowners know what they’re paying up front and the fees don’t change depending on the final sale price. The benefit for agents is that they collect and keep this money regardless of whether or not the final sale goes through. How much does Purplebricks charge?
Purplebricks charges £899 to market a single property. While they call this a “flat fee”, you could end up paying more. For example, if you live in London or other surrounding postal codes, expect to pay £1,399. The upside is that this is the only fee you’ll pay, regardless of how long it takes your property to sell. You can even take your listing down and remarket with Purplebricks at a later date and this same fee will cover the marketing costs.
